Real Speed Training

Real Speed Training, what does it look like? And why do most programs miss the mark.

Speed is one of the most sought-after attributes in sports—and for good reason. Whether you’re trying to beat a defender to the ball, explode off the line, or close a gap on defense, speed changes the game.

But here’s the truth most coaches, camps, and flashy programs don’t want to admit: real speed training takes time, objective data, and precision.

At OC Sports Performance, we’ve built our reputation on results—and those results start with accurate measurement, consistent training, and long-term development.

If You’re Not Testing, You’re Guessing

Any program claiming to improve speed must prove it. If no one measures speed before and after the program, how can they say an athlete got faster?

At OC, we use laser-timed 10-yard and 40-yard sprints to collect accurate data. We test our athletes consistently throughout the year. This gives us clear benchmarks and shows real progress.

Athletes feel motivated when they see results. Parents appreciate knowing the training is working. Coaches use the data to refine and improve the plan. Everyone wins when performance is measured and tracked.

Hand-Timed Sprints Aren’t Accurate

Plenty of coaches still use stopwatches to time sprints—but the margin of error is too big to ignore. On average, human reaction time adds 0.2 seconds to a stopwatch reading. That’s a major gap in a 40-yard dash.

Laser-timing removes the guesswork. It starts when the athlete moves and stops when they cross the laser, delivering exact results. If your athlete gets hand-timed, their data isn’t reliable.

We want our athletes to know with certainty when they’re faster—not just hope a coach pressed the stopwatch at the right moment.

Real Speed Training Isn’t a 4-Week Camp

Speed doesn’t stick after a four-week camp. It doesn’t come from a handful of drills at a summer clinic. It builds through consistency.

At OC, we train speed year-round. Our program includes sprint mechanics, acceleration, top-end speed, and deceleration work. Each week builds on the last to create real, lasting gains.

The best part? Long-term speed training also helps reduce injury risk. Athletes learn to move more efficiently, land safely, and handle the demands of their sport with confidence.

What Makes OC Sports Performance Different?

We use laser-timed sprints—not stopwatches
Speed training every week, not just at camps
Measurable progress throughout the year
Coaching the whole athlete—strength, mindset, nutrition, and recovery

At OC, we don’t offer gimmicks or quick fixes. We offer a system that works—for athletes who want to put in the work.

OC Sports Performance we only accept 100 athletes into our program, and athletes who quit mid-season are not guaranteed a spot when they return. We take performance seriously, and we coach beyond just sets and reps—we coach mindset, nutrition, supplementation, and recovery so athletes can thrive on and off the field.

Whether your athlete dreams of playing in college or simply wants to be the best version of themselves, real speed development is worth the time—and deserves to be done right.
