Metrics That Matter

At OC Sports Performance, tracking and improving key metrics is one of our core values. We are a metric-based facility, meaning we don’t just train—we test, measure, and share results. This transparency ensures athletes, parents, and coaches are aligned and aware of the progress being made.

Prioritizing Safety First

New athletes start with four one-on-one sessions. These personalized sessions:

  • Teach proper safety measures for the big three lifts: squat, bench press, and deadlift.
  • Teach and observe accessory movements commonly used in day to day training.
  • Provide a safe environment to discuss previous injuries or concerns.
  • Build trust and confidence between the athlete and coach.
Establishing Baselines

After safety comes testing. We collect baseline data, including:

  • Standing vertical jump
  • Broad jump
  • Flying 10- or 20-yard sprint (or a 40-yard sprint)
  • Additional jump variations(one step box jump, no step box jump, running box jump, seated at parallel box jump)

These benchmarks help athletes understand where they stand and give coaches the insights needed to design effective training plans.

Day-to-Day Training

Once the initial sessions are complete, athletes transition to our SP general classes. These classes follow a structured weekly schedule:

  • Jump Training: Three sessions per week with varied jump techniques
  • Strength Training: Lower and upper body lifting twice a week
  • Sprint Training: One session per week focused on maximum effort sprints
  • Aerobic Capacity (Saturdays): For athletes who train on weekends, we incorporate aerobic development
Regular Testing for Continuous Growth

Every month, athletes test key performance metrics:

  • 40-yard sprint
  • Broad jump
  • Vertical jump

These tests provide tangible proof of improvement and directly impact athletic performance. We record 40-yard sprint times and update athletes on their top speed, flying 10-yard, and flying 20-yard times.

Strength Metrics

We test the big three lifts—squat, bench press, and deadlift—every 3-4 months. Consistent attendance and tracking provide athletes with valuable data points to understand their strength gains over time.
