Why We Don’t Offer Open Gym at OC — And Why It Helps You Make Real Progress

At OC Gym Bend, we get this question often: “Why don’t you offer open gym?”
It’s a fair question. Many gyms let people come in, put in headphones, and do whatever workout they find online. However, that model doesn’t reflect who we are or what helps our members become strong, healthy, and happy for life.
We don’t offer open gym because OC is intentionally built as a coaching gym. And coaching—real coaching—is what drives progress, confidence, and long-term consistency.
Coaching Creates Structure, Not Chaos
When people train without a plan, they often fall into one of two patterns:
They either do too little to make progress or far too much and end up exhausted, frustrated, or injured.
Our members follow a progressive training program designed to build general physical preparedness (GPP). This means you become strong, resilient, conditioned, and capable in ways that support your life outside the gym.
Instead of guessing, you follow a plan created by coaches who understand training cycles, recovery demands, and what your body actually needs to improve. Because of this structure, you avoid unnecessary volume and junk training that does nothing but break you down.
